Film on the exhibition

Memoires from childhood are central to the artistic work of Martin Honert, which Nationalgalerie presented in a comprehensive solo show in 2012. With over thirty works and groups of work from all phases of his career, the exhibition offered unique insights into the artist’s oeuvre.

Based on works that remained in his memory, family photographs and child drawings the artist staged moments of his own biography and staged them in three-dimensional objects. In elaborate craftsmanship, he condensed memories of games, reading, and scenes from his childhood with individual impressive pictures. Behind each object is a story shaped by the fantasies, ambivalent feelings and experiences of a child. The moments captured are based on personal memories and are at the same time testimony to childhood during the early Federal Republic of Germany.
