No Father No Mother

Film on the exhibition

Moshe Gershuni (b. in Tel Aviv in 1936) is one of the most important Israeli artists today. His existential work, a continuous project over more than 40 years, is uncompromising, and his production of paintings, drawings, and sculpture leaves a great deal of room for association. At the same time sensual and conceptual, emotional and critical, authentic and staged, Gershuni’s works overcome contradictions and fuse historical thought with the cathartic directness of painterly action.

No Father No Mother (2014) was the first solo show at Neue Nationalgalerie to show the work of an Israeli artist. It was also Gershuni’s first major exhibition at a European museum in over 30 years.
