The winner of the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2013 Mariana Castillo Deball (b. in Mexico City in 1975) showed a project developed especially for her solo exhibition in the historic hall of Hamburger Bahnhof. The expansive installation combined various artistic considerations at intersection between historical research, philosophy, and art that have been decisive for the artist’s work. For her works, she appropriates various fields and brings the process of research, recalling methods from archaeology, ethnography, and the history of science, to a contemporary artistic language. Forgotten things are placed in new contexts to allow images and alternative readings to emerge.
