40 Years – 40 Works of Art: Episode 1
Peter Raue, a co-founder of the association and chairman from its founding in 1977 to 2008 and since then its honorary president, speaks about one of the most spectacular acquisitions that Freunde der Nationalgalerie has made. In 1982, the association summoned up all its temerity and purchased Barnett Newman’s Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue IV, a key work of American color field painting, for 1.2 million US dollars.
