Augsut Kopisch’s Heinzelmännchen are better known than his painting and more famous than his many essays, translations, poems, and letters. But his writing in particular reveals his aesthetic-historic interests. That the bon vivant Kopisch turned into a reactionary later in life is clearly reflected in his writings. But the linguistic fire that these texts develop is by no means inferior to the spectacular light of his paintings. Kopisch’s texts astonish today’s reader with their surprisingly fresh sense of humor. In his lecture, Andreas Platthaus explores the various faces of August Kopisch.
Andreas Platthaus, born in Aachen in 1966, studied rhetoric, philosophy, and history. Since 1997 he has worked as a cultural journalist and editor for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, responsible for literature.
